For those of you who don’t follow the AGP Instagram, I just got back from a solo camping trip in Possum Kingdom State Park. The trip wasn’t about relaxing or getting away; it was to find God. I went to be with God in his beautiful country and experience a connection that I had long been desiring.
Possum Kingdom had been wrecked by a massive wildfires in the previous years and was in bad shape when I arrived. However, I felt God use this as a metaphor for the trip: “I may look like nothing now, but just wait and see.”
All of this may seem silly to you or not to your liking, but I felt at home out there. The time was spent with prayer, worship, reading, and basking in the glory of God. I highly suggest that you give it a try. It’ll be well worth the few dollars it cost to rent a campsite and I’m sure God will do wonders in your life if you let him. I plan on turning this into a yearly retreat for myself to continue to grow closer to God.
I have attached a few pictures of the park for your enjoyment. God bless!
The entire time I could not stop singing Brandon Rhyder and Josh Abbott Band’s song “Hell’s Gates on Fire.” The song is about the wildfires and about the area. I hope you enjoy the listen:
